How to live happy when you are retired
Now that you're older, your whole life has changed, from working forty hours a week to asking yourself what to do with all that time. Retirement! It is such a strong word, you know that everything will change, you feel very concerned that your lifestyle will totally change.
Do not worry if the first days of retirement are hard, it's normal, it's a very drastic change, but you should think that is your reward for a long time of work and effort, it’s time to enjoy, it's time for change, it's time do what you love to do without worries, no more office, Let’s enjoy.
Here are some examples of how to fill that time and make your "golden years" really golden.
1. Find a part time job to stay busy. It doesn’t have to be a real job but you can choose an occupation related to your interests and hobbies. This will also give you some cash for other things you want to do but you can’t afford with your social security paychecks.
2. It’s time to travel: Book these wonderful trips on which you’ve been dreaming all your life. Go see the world, nothing better than planning a trip you've dreamed of for so long, it's time to make it happen, visit tourist destinations in the country, outside the country or just visit your family.
3. Join volunteer groups where you feel useful and time valued, join golf clubs. A study by a University of Michigan shows that "older Americans who care for others through volunteer work or good neighborly relations live 60% longer than those who take care of themselves.
4. Spend time with those you love, invite people to dinner, it’s time for you to do what you want.
5. Enjoy a hobby. The puzzles or crosswords are a good option, or participate of friends meetings.
6. Spend more time into the church. Enjoy religious meetings that you like.
7. Remain active. Daily morning walks or working out at home are some examples, as you prefer, the idea is you to keep healthy by exercising.
The golden years of your life are called golden because this is the time when you finally do all the things you wanted without having to worry about time. Go out and enjoy them.
Write a list of what you plan to do and review it periodically to free yourself from what's bothering you.
Avoid becoming sedentary; it’s the greatest challenge you will face.
